The “Step Out of the Darkness” march, co-hosted by the Pontotoc County Drug Free Coalition and the Brandon Whitten Institute at East Central University, will take place Saturday and wrap up with a rally, food and fun on the ECU campus.
The event, scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m., opens with a prayer march from the Pontotoc County Courthouse Plaza to ECU’s Centennial Plaza, according to a news release from ECU. Stops will be made at designated locations along the way for times of prayer. The emphasis of the march is to stress the importance of being united in spirit for prevention and recovery from drug addiction.
Last year’s event drew statewide attention, as approximately 500 people marched down Main Street and declared “Addiction Affects Us All!”
