Fight to end cancer calls to restaurant

Ada —

In 2011, Chili’s Grill and Bar in Ada raised $2,399 for the fight against pediatric cancer.

This year, general manager John Johnson has set the bar higher. His restaurant has raised about $3,749 for the cause so far and hopes to reach $8,000 by Sept. 26.

“I truly believe we can get it with the support of the community,” Johnson said Tuesday.

This month, Chili’s restaurants are raising money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. The ninth annual “Create-a-Pepper” campaign, which coincides with National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, runs through Sept. 26.

The highlight of the campaign is Donate Profits Day, set for Sept. 24. On that day, Chili’s restaurants across the country — including the Ada operation — will donate 100 percent of their net profits to St. Jude.
