CLARITA — Yep, they’re here through June 10 for the Fourth Annual Don Young Memorial Wagon Train and will be camping in Grigsby Park in Clarita for the duration. Rides to the public will be offered. The wagon ride is conducted each year in the memory of the late Don Young, a mule skinner.
Chicken and dumpling dinner will be offered at Velma's Kitchen Friday night, June 8, by reservation. Reservations are open to the public as space is available. Phone 580-428-3121 to make reservations.
Velma’s Kitchen will be offering breakfast Saturday and Sunday, June 9-10 at 8 a.m. which will include homemade doughnuts, breakfast sandwiches, biscuits and gravy, and cinnamon rolls. Amish Haystack lunch will begin at noon Saturday. All proceeds from this lunch event will go toward the restoration of General “Mule” Waveren’s Cabin. Reservations for breakfast and lunch Saturday are not needed.
Restoration on General “Mule” Waveren’s cabin began on Wednesday and continues through Saturday; it is currently under de-construction. There will be free wagon rides pulled by the mule team, and they will be traveling the back roads of Clarita through Saturday.
Planting a cotton patch (weather permitting) will be done Saturday morning with help from the public.
Free booth space is available for flea market vendors, antique dealers, crafters, garage sale items, and pets or livestock. Food booths are welcome but are limited to canned goods, produce, eggs, butter and such. Ready-to-eat food is not permitted.
Limited covered 10 by 10 spaces are available on a first-come-first serve basis. There is also plenty of outside space for vendors to set up. Vendors may set up Friday, June 8.
