Swirls and Pearls for Girls set

Pontotoc County Associate District Judge Martha Kilgore, honorary chair and Girl Scout alumna, and 2012 Ada Juliette Low Leadership Society (JLLS)  announce its inaugural celebration is May 4. The event, Swirls and Pearls for the Girls, marks the culmination of the Society’s 2012 fundraising campaign.

Guests of the event, which is set to begin at 6 p.m. at Ada Elks Lodge, will enjoy wine tastings from Oklahoma wineries as well as a selection of hors d’oeuvres. Girl Scout alumnae are encouraged to attend in historic uniform and bring memorabilia to share as the Society honors the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouting.

Serving as honorary chair for the 2012 Ada Society is Judge Martha Kilgore. Originally from Tulsa, Kilgore was a Girl Scout Brownie before moving to Wisconsin at age 8. She earned her Juris Doctorate from the University of Oklahoma and has spent the last 23 years as asssociate district judge for the 22nd Judicial District, Pontotoc County.

Her record of community service spans 17 years and includes the Rotary Club of Ada, Mock Trial advisor for Ada High School, Girls’ State judicial advisor, and honorary chair for March of Dimes Walk America. Married to Jim, her husband of 32 years, Kilgore is a mother of two daughters and grandmother of two Girl Scouts, Makenna and Malley.

Single tickets for Swirls and Pearls for the Girls, which supports local Girl Scout programs, are available for $25. Sponsorships range from $100 to $500. The 2012 Ada Juliette Low Leadership Society Committee includes Kilgore, JLLS committee chair Keri Coleman-Prince, Regional Board Representative Suzanne McFarlane, Kyra Childers, Robyn Elliott, Chris Feiler, Mary Garber, Debbie Hallum, Jill Hudson, Barbara Miller, Angela Owens, Elaine Rhynes, Nancy Thomason and Shawna Williams.

The Juliette Low Leadership Society is comprised of women who open doors and create pathways for young women to pursue. Each year, the Society funds a variety of Girl Scout leadership programs and higher education scholarships for girls across eastern Oklahoma.
