Food ministry hosted Saturday

ADA — Philemon Baptist Church, 3101 Ware Drive, hosts a food ministry from 10 a.m. until noon Saturday, March 23. For more information, phone 332-2063.

 

St. Joseph Youth to have garage sale

ADA — The youth of St. Joseph Church conducts a garage sale in Benedictine Hall Saturday, April 6, from 8 a.m. until noon. There will be an assortment of items for sale including furniture, books, toys, kitchen items, bedding, home décor items, silver tea service, an original water color painting, holiday décor and more.  Proceeds from the sale will help the youth attend their summer conference to be held at Missouri State University.

 

Bread of Life feeds the hungry

ADA — Bread of Life Ministry, hosted by Ada First Baptist Church, feeds the hungry in the Ada community from 5:30-6:30 p.m. each Thursday in the church dining room, 521 S. Broadway Ave.

 

Palm Saturday set at St. Luke’s

ADA — For several years, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church has hosted a Palm Saturday event for children ages kindergarten through fifth grade. This year’s pre-Holy Week event will be on Saturday, March 23, from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

Children will be involved in arts and crafts and other activities that communicate the powerful images of Easter and Resurrection. This event is free and anyone is welcome.

St. Luke’s Episcopal Church is located at 17th and Broadway.  

 

St. Luke’s sets Holy Week services

Holy Week services at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church include the following:

• Tenebrae at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 27

• Maundy Thursday Service at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 28.

• Stations of the Cross at 12:10 a.m. Friday, March 29.

• Good Friday Service at 7 p.m. Friday, March 29.

• Easter Vigil at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 30.

• Easter Service at 9 a.m. Sunday, March 31.

St. Luke’s Episcopal Church is located at 17th and Broadway.

 

The WAY meets Tuesday at Ada 

ADA — The WAY meets Tuesday nights at 6 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church. This is a 12-step recovery meeting for adults. There is also a Bible-based program for children. A meal is served after the meeting. The Christ-centered 12 steps can be applied to everyone’s life.

Holy days discussed April 3 in study

ADA — The United Church of God, publisher of The Good News Magazine, hosts a public Bible study titled God’s Plan of Salvation Revealed in the Annual Holy Days. Did the Apostle Paul teach gentile churches to observe the annual holy days? Do the annual holy days have meaning for Christians today?

These questions will be discussed at a free and informative Bible study at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, at Ada Public Library.

Methodist sets Holy Week services 

ADA — The First United Methodist Church observes Holy Week with worship services to be held on Passion/Palm Sunday, March 24, at the 8:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. services. 

Holy Communion will be observed at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 28, in the church chapel. 

Good Friday services include an Interdenominational Service at noon at Abba’s House, sponsored by the Ministerial Fellowship with the Rev. Temple Diehl preaching. That evening in Ada First Methodist Church’s Sanctuary a special service at 7 p.m. features the church’s Chancel Choir providing very special music. 

An Easter Egg Hunt is from 4- 6 p.m. Saturday, March 30, at the McKnight home located at 1420 Pine St. 

Easter Sunday services are at 8:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. with glorious music by the Chancel Choir.

Local church motto Distinctively Different

ADA — “Distinctively Different” has been Ada Baptist Temple’s motto from its beginning.

ABT is “Distinctively Different” in regard to its services, according to church officials. The services are exciting and spiritual. The music is traditional hymns sung in an upbeat manner with five pianos providing a great sound.

Preaching is powerful and relevant. Pastors Robert Eberle and Mickey Hollarsn have more than 80 years of combined preaching experience along with dynamic guest preachers.

ABT invites the Ada community to come experience the “Distinctive Difference.”

Mark of the beast topic of Bible study 

ADA — New Life Church of the Apostolic Faith hosts a Bible study about the mark of the beast in Revelation 13. For more information, phone 436-1765. Refreshments will be served.

 

Special services set at local church 

ADA — First Presbyterian Church of Ada is having a Maundy Thursday Service on March 28 at 8 p.m., Jill Acree will be leading the worship service..

Good Friday Service will be on March 29 at 8 p.m.,  Buddy Baltimore will be leading the service.

Easter Sunday service will be on March 31 at 10:45 p.m. with an Easter Egg Hunt for all the children after the worship service.

First Presbyterian Church is located at 301 East Kings Road in Ada. For more information, phone 332-3073.

Childcare will be provided on Maundy Thursday and Easter Sunday.

 

Singing convention set at Dixon Chapel

STRATFORD — Choctaw-Chickasaw Singing Convention takes place Sunday, March 24, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Dixon Chapel. Featured singers are In His Gates group.

Dinner will be served at noon. All singers are welcome.

To reach Dixon Chapel, at the four-way stop sign in Stratford go five miles west to Longmire Lake sign, turn north and go four miles to a T in the road, then travel west one-third mile. The church is on the right side of the road.

Bible Academy takes enrollment

ADA — Central Bible Academy, 820 Stadium Drive, is taking  enrollment for the 2013-2014 school year.

The academy offers an enriched learning program in a Christian environment for 2, 3 and 4-year-old children. All teachers and aides are educated and certified.

  • Boat Full Wintersmith Lake hosts Chickasaw boaters

    A dragon boat, kayaks and canoes gracefully slid atop Wintersmith Lake in Ada during a special program hosted by the Chickasaw Nation Riversport Youth Canoe/Kayak League. This marked the first time in approximately 20 years such an event was conducted on the local lake.

    Ada Community Theatre (ACT II) is now taking applications for its summer Youth Drama Camp. The production will be “Montgomery Mansion”, a comical musical written by Vickie Reifsnider, Darice Strickland and Rudy Lupinski.  The camp receives funding assistance from the Oklahoma Arts Council.
