Cami Correa and Lacey Williams each launched a grand slam as East Central University rolled to a 12-1 run-rule rout of host 7 in the first game of a Great American Conference softball doubleheader.
Host OBU took the second game by a 5-0 count as the two teams split a four-game series after dividing a pair of games on Saturday.
ECU moved to 21-16 on the season and 11-11 in the GAC while OBU went to 18-25 and 6-16.
ECU 12, Ouachita Baptist 1
Cami Correa hit her seventh homer of the season and Lacey Williams cranked out her second as ECU compiled 13 hits in rolling to the run-rule win.
Correa went 2-for-5 and drove home five runs in the contest with an RBI double in the first inning and a grand slam in the fifth. Williams hit a grand slam in the fourth inning.
Two other Lady Tigers had two hits apiece including Shelby Simmons (2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored), Brianna Baron (2-for-3 with two runs scored) and Lauren Bancroft (2-for-3 with a run scored).
Ali Manship (10-8) worked four complete innings for the win as she surrendered the one earned run off five hits with three walks and a strikeout in going four complete innings. Amanda Madden pitched the fifth and allowed just one hit while facing four batters.
Manship also helped her own cause by stroking a two-run double in the fourth inning. Emily Kennemer, batting in the leadoff spot, was 1-for-2 with a walk, was hit by a pitch and scored twice.
ECU went up 1-0 in the first inning on Correa’s RBI double.
Then the visitors scored six more times in the fourth off six hits and an error, highlighted by Williams’ grand slam. One-out singles by Desiree Nordie, Chelsea Patterson and Baron set the table for Williams’ blast.
After OBU picked up its only score in the bottom half of the fourth on an Alexis Johns RBI single, ECU scored five runs in the fifth off Simmons’ RBI single and Correa’s four-run shot.
A single each by Baron and Bancroft, followed by an intentional walk to Kennemer, set the stage for Correa’s slam.
Ouachita Baptist 5, ECU 0
ECU managed just six hits off OBU hurler Abbi Frakes who allowed just two walks and struck out one.
Four of the six ECU hits came from Simmons (2-for-3 with a triple) and Williams (2-for-3).
OBU scored once in the first, twice in the second and twice in the fifth behind nine total hits in the contest.
Nunley (10-7) suffered the pitching loss in going the first 4.1 innings and allowing eight hits with a pair of walks. Only two of the five runs scored off her were earned. Madden pitched the final 1.2 innings and gave up just one hit and one walk.
Johns went 2-for-3 and scored a run while Megan Askew had a solo-homer for OBU.
ECU returns to action next Saturday and Sunday at home against Arkansas Tech in a four-game GAC series at Lady Tiger Field in Ada. The two teams are scheduled to meet in a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday and a pair of games beginning at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
