NAIA power OCU edges ECU baseball team, 6-4

Oklahoma City — East Central University was limited to three hits as NAIA second-ranked Oklahoma City University held on for a 6-4 baseball victory Tuesday night in non-conference play at Jim Wade Stadium.

OCU, 37-8 on the season, pounded out 10 hits as six pitchers limited the Tiger offense.

ECU, which fell to 24-22, fell into a 5-0 hole before finally getting on the board in the fifth inning on a two-run single by Ethan Gold.

Greg Hamrock’s one-out solo-homer in the seventh pulled the Tigers within 6-3 and Tyle Hankins had an RBI infield single in the ninth to pull ECU within 6-4.

The Stars received a home run apiece from Chris Munoz and Miguel Beltran while Dane Phillips (2-for-3 with an RBI double) and Brayden Brumley (2-for-4) each had multiple hits.

Munoz hit his homer to lead off the bottom of the third and Beltran hit a one-out solo-shot in the same inning.

ECU used seven pitchers in the game as starter Donny Williams (4-1) was charged with the loss after going 2.1 innings and allowing five earned runs off seven hits with one walk and a pair of strikeouts.

OCU’s first reliever Jerod Peper (1-0) was credited with the win after going 2.1 innings and allowing two earned runs off one hit with four walks and six strikeouts.

The Tigers close out the 2012 regular season with a three-game Great American Conference home series with Southeastern Oklahoma State. The two teams will meet in a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday before battling in a 2 p.m. single game on Sunday.
