The East Central University women’s golf team sits squarely in the middle of the pack in fifth place after the first round of the inaugural Great American Conference Championships began Sunday at the par-72 Hot Springs Country Club.
Harding University leads the field with a team score of 318, followed by Henderson State (328), Arkansas Tech (330), Southwestern Oklahoma State (341), ECU (350), Ouachita Baptist (386), Arkansas-Monticello (406) and Southern Arkansas (427).
ECU’s best score of the day came from Emily Wharton who shot a 13-over-par 85 and is tied individually for 15th place. Teammates Lindsey Lunceford and Ashley Cardwell are tied with three others for 18th place as each finished with an 87.
Also for the Lady Tigers, Shay Shaw is in 25th place after shooting a 91 and Tess Bullard is tied for 26th after posting a 92.
Despite the fact that her team is in last place, Southern Arkansas’ Whitley Patterson registered the best score of the day with a 5-over 77.
She leads Harding’s Soyun Kim by one shot.
The second round is slated for Monday while the third and final round is set for Tuesday in Hot Springs, Ark.
