Bank worker, lover jailed in robbery

bank worker, lover jailed in robbery

Ada — Ada police have arrested a Citizens Bank of Ada employee and her boyfriend following an armed robbery of the bank’s Cradduck Road branch early Friday morning.

A third suspect remains at large, according to Ada Assistant Police Chief Carl Allen.

Held without bond is David Jaquonne Cole, one of two men who allegedly forced their way into the bank shortly after it opened.

His girlfriend, 21-year-old Meagan Short, is being held on $250,000 bond based on arrest warrant affidavits filed with Pontotoc County District Court. Short worked for Citizens Bank of Ada but bank officials declined comment today when asked by The Ada News about possible employee involvement in the case.

Ada police are still searching for the third suspect involved in the robbery.

Police knew something was amiss with Short when they arrived on the scene, the affidavit states.

Short told Ada police her boyfriend (Cole) “had been talking about robbing the bank recently.” She told investigators the “talk became more serious” within days of the heist.

Pontotoc District Judge Tommy Landrith granted a search warrant for the residence the couple share at 1215 E. Corona in Ada.

Inside, police found $78,800 in cash in a black bag hidden in the attic. Also found by Ada police was a plastic bag containing gloves and vests allegedly worn by two male suspects during the holdup.

One of the men brandished a small revolver during the robbery. Police did not elaborate if Cole was suspected of being armed.

During the investigation at the robbery site, it was determined Short left the bank building to allegedly retrieve some chocolate chip cookies from her car. She later admitted to police the story was a lie. She admitted she was looking for her boyfriend and his companion because they were running later than planned.

It was Short who opened the vault for her boyfriend and his accomplice. The second Citizens Bank of Ada employee was tied up by the suspects, but Short was not bound which raised police eyebrows at the scene. “It was apparent that Meagan Short was treated differently” by the robbers than the other employee, according to the affidavit.
