• Community Baby Show for expectant families and those with children age birth to 2 years old takes place from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Chickasaw Nation Community Center, 700 North Mississippi. Hosts are Smart Start South Central, East Central University, Oklahoma State Department of Health and Valley View Regional Hospital. The event is free and will offer information services, resource materials and door prizes. Childcare is provided. Call-A-Ride is providing free transportation. • Grief Share, a weekly video seminar grief support group,is available in Ada. There are 13 weekly sessions held every Thursday evening from 6:45-8:30 p.m. at Ada First Free Will Baptist Churc, 421 South Ash, in the Family Life Center. This support group is open to the entire Ada area and to any church affiliation. There is a $15 registration fee (workbook included); scholarships are available.  Contact the group facilitator, Emily, at 580) 310-9911 or register online at www.adafirstfwb.com. JULY 21, 2012

• A medical fund-raiser for Darlene Wofford Marsh is 6 p.m. at the Lula Fire Department. Marsh was recently diagnosed with cancer and has no insurance. In addition to a putluck dinner, there will be a silent auction. There is no charge but donations will be accepted. To make a donation or for more information, phone Linda Forrester at 580-421-7308.

• Konawa T-Steppers is conducting its annual fundraiser at Pop & Granny’s Pub & Grill located three miles east of Rivermist on state Highway 56. The girls will be having a garage sale, car wash, and an Indian taco sale.  They are selling tickets for the Indian taco meal which includes a drink and a dessert for $7. • Gold Dusters chapter of Gold Prospectors Association of America meets at 10 a.m. the third Saturday of each month on the third floor of Fentem Hall, East Central University campus. For more information, phone Phil Robinson at 580-320-3424. 

• Mary’s Music Barn, featuring The Country Pride Band and special guest, presents traditional country music the third Saturday of each month.  Mary’s Music Barn is located three and one-half miles south of Stonewall on Jesse Highway. • Ada Elk’s Lodge conducts dance classes each Monday from 7-8:30 p.m. Classes include country/western, swing, waltz and line. Dance classes are $2.50 per person and are open to the public. Ada Elk’s Lodge kitchen is open at 6 p.m. for the Monday night special or guests may order from the menu.

JULY 24, 2012

• The Divorce/Bereavement Support Group meets each Wednesday at 7 p.m. at The Compassion Outreach Center, 1124 Cradduck Rd., Ada. The group offers support for those who have lost a loved one through divorce or death. For more information, phone Tom at 580-332-6506.

• A dance is conducted each Wednesday at Irving Community Center, 704 N. Oak, from 7:30-10 p.m. Cost is $6 per person and is open to all ages.

• New Lima alumni reunion’s “Roam the Hallways” social takes place from 9 a.m. until noon at New Lima High School. Doughnuts, coffee and juice are available. The annual business meeting takes place at 11 a.m. in the cafeteria. The annual banquet takes place from 7 p.m. until midnight at Seminole Masonic Lodge located at 1709 W. • The fourth annual back-to-school giveaway of free school supplies is 8-11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, at Pontotoc County Agriplex. The event is sponsored by Legacy Church of Ada and Ada Merchants.

• The Peach Town Opry, a music show and open mic night, is hosted at 7 p.m. the first Saturday of each month at Stratford American Legion Building located just north of the 4-way stop on US Highway 177 in Stratford. AUG. 6, 2012

• Today is the cut off date to sign up for the 21st annual Ada Shrine Club Golf Scramble and Shootout skins game Aug. 11. The event begins with a two-man scramble at 8 a.m. shotgun start at Jimmie Austin Golf Course, Seminole. Cost is $130 per team, which includes green fee, cart and hamburgers, hotdogs or hot link dinner. Mulligans are $5; A,B&C Flights (determined by adjusted team handicap); senior flight (both golfers must be 60 or older.) Skins game prizes. Total prize money equals $4,300. Proceeds benefit Ada Shrine Club Activity Fund. Cut-off date is Aug. 6 to sign up. There is a $25 penalty for late sign-up. To participate in the tournament phone 580-421-2019 or 332-2465. • Ada Kiwanis Club meets each Monday at 12 noon in the Aldridge Ballroom, 12th and Broadway, for buffet lunch and a short program. Kiwanis is a service club whose motto is “Young Children, Priority One.” Kiwanians serve the  community in ways that primarily benefit children, including the operation of the Kiwanis Ball Park and assisting with the Wintersmith Kiddie Park.
