Ada hosts annual art show May 7-12

The 2012 Ada Artists Association (AAA) Spring Art Show will be held May 7-12 at the Ada Public Library, 124 S. Rennie Street in Ada and the AAA is encouraging its members and artists throughout the region to submit work for the exhibition.  

Now in its 63rd year as an organization, the AAA is hosting its annual art show to offer artists a valuable opportunity to showcase their work and to offer the community a high quality exhibition by area artists, according to 2012 exhibit chairpersons Charlotte Harris and Chance Brown.

The Spring Art Show will feature artists in both adult and youth divisions and cash awards and other recognition for participating artists include: Adult Division -- Best in Show ($300); First Place ($200); Second Place ($150); Third Place ($100); and Honorable Mention (award ribbons).  The Youth Division the awards include: Best in Show ($25) and award ribbons for first and second place in the categories (first through eight grade) and (ninth through 12th grade).

The Judge for the 2012 event is Alan Burris, Director of the Fine Arts Department of Murray State College, Tishomingo, Oklahoma.  Burris, an East Central University (ECU) graduate with B.A. and MEd degrees.

On Tuesday, May 8, there will be a reception for the 2012 exhibit in the McKeel Center from 6-7:30 p.m. and the award winners will be announced during this event.

Both AAA adult members and non-members can enter up to four works of art for consideration.  In the adult category, the AAA member fee is $7 per entry and the non-member fee is $10 per entry.  In the youth category, those in 12th grade and under may enter up to two works at $5 per entry.  (Annual membership for the Ada Artists Association is $15.)   

Registration for the 2012 event will be on Saturday, May 5, from 9 a.m. until noon in the McKeel Center (second floor) of the Ada Public Library.  Post show art pick-up will be in the same location on Saturday, May 12, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. (with the library closing its doors at 1 p.m.).
