WEDNESDAY

MAY 23 , 2012

• Toastmaster’s Speaking Club meets at 6:30 p.m. in Room 311, Pontotoc Tech Center. The event is open to the public. • The Divorce/Bereavement Support Group meets each Wednesday at 7 p.m. at The Compassion Outreach Center, 1124 Cradduck Rd., Ada. The group offers support for those who have lost a loved one through divorce or death. For more information, phone Tom at 580-332-6506.

• A dance is conducted each Wednesday at Irving Community Center, 704 N. Oak, from 7:30-10 p.m. Cost is $6 per person and is open to all ages.

MAY 25, 2012

• Stonewall Head Start, located at McLish School in Fittstown, will be taking applications for 3 and 4 year olds from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. For more information, phone 580-332-8233 or 580-320-5755.

• Al Anon meets at 8 p.m. each Friday at St. Lukes Episcopal Church.

MAY 26, 2012

• Owl Creek Community and School Reunion takes place at Owl Creek Community Church. Guests are to take a covered dish meal and lawn chairs.

• Connerville Cemetery committee has scheduled the 26th annual Baked Ham Supper for Connerville Cemetery Fund. The fund-raiser begins at 6 p.m. at Dr. Wilkerson Senior Citizens Center of Connerville.   Donations will be accepted and guests may take a dessert. Connerville Cemetery Fund depends solely on proceeds from the supper and donations which are greatly appreciated.  This fund is used only for the mowing and upkeep of the cemetery.  Other maintenance work is done by volunteers at their own expense. Those who are unable to attend the event and would like to contribute to the fund may send donations to Connerville Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 60, Connerville, OK 74836-0060.

• Vamossa School and Community Reunion is 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the old Vamoosa School, now  Grace Community Church. For more information, phone 405-398-4323.

• Camp Fire USA’s annual summer day camp, Camp DaWaSi, will be held the week of June 25-29. Deadline to sign up is May 31.  For more information or a registration form, contact Stephanie Westmoreland at 580-332-1360. 

• TOPS, Take Off Pounds Sensibly, a support weight loss group, meets at 8:30 a.m. each Monday at Irving Community Center, second floor. For more information, phone 580-399-6731.

• The annual fish fry to benefit Frisco Cemetery takes place at 5 p.m. at the multi-purpose builidng at Stonewall Park. All donations are appreciated and will be used for the upkeep of the cemetery. Donations may also be made to Frisco Cemetery Fund, C/O First American Bank, P.O. Box 307, Stonewall, OK 74871.

 

SATURDAY

JUNE 2, 2012

• Lost Cherokee of Arkansas and Missouri are meeting at 12:30 p.m. at Ada Public Library. This is a bake sale with cakes, pies, canned jellies and jams. For the auction, members are asked to take nice clean towels, aprons, jewelery and what-nots. Don Harness is in charge of the meeting. Those attending need to take covered dish meals for the potluck dinner. Cost is $6 for adults and $2.50 for children ages 6 and younger.

• The Peach Town Opry, a music show and open mic night, is hosted at 7 p.m. the first Saturday of each month at Stratford American Legion Building located just north of the 4-way stop on US Highway 177 in Stratford. The show is free, open to the public and features contemporary country and gospel music. For more information, contact Carole at 320-4319.

JUNE 4, 2012

• Ada Kiwanis Club meets each Monday at 12 noon in the Aldridge Ballroom, 12th and Broadway, for buffet lunch and a short program. Kiwanis is a service club whose motto is “Young Children, Priority One.” Kiwanians serve the  community in ways that primarily benefit children, including the operation of the Kiwanis Ball Park and assisting with the Wintersmith Kiddie Park. Contact President Donna Rodebush at 580-272-3029 for more information.    

• Ada Elk’s Lodge conducts dance classes each Monday from 7-8:30 p.m. Classes include country/western, swing, waltz and line. Dance classes are $2.50 per person and are open to the public. Ada Elk’s Lodge kitchen is open at 6 p.m. for the Monday night special or guests may order off the menu. 

•Veterans of Foreign Wars, Desert Storm Post 11194, holds its monthly meeting the first Monday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Music Room  located on the second floor of Ada Public Library. Anyone having an interest in the VFW, any veteran, and especially those who have earned a campaign medal through participation in combat are encouraged to attend. The Post also operates a Veterans Service Office at 701 N. Broadway in Ada.
