South Central Roller Girls are hosting a benefit game for 5-year-old Wyatt Harrod Sunday, April 22, at Ada Star Skate.
Wyatt is the son of Steve and MarKae Harrod, Konawa. He was hospitalized Feb. 28 in Oklahoma City with brain lesions that affect his motor skills. After being in OU Children’s Hosptial for 13 days , Wyatt was transported to Houston Children’s Hospital to try and find a diagnosis. After several tests, doctors believe that Wyatt has ADEM, a disorder that affects only about 8 out of one million children. There is no test to be certain of ADEM. Sterooids are given to children with ADEM to reduce the swelling and lesions in the brain. Wyatt returned home from Hosuton March 16. More testing on Wyatt will be done in May.
The roller derby game will consist of skaters from all across Oklahoma and Texas. These skaters have signed up to be a part of this benefit and will be divided into two teams. The doors to the public will open at 6 p.m. and the game will begin at 7 p.m. Admission is $7 and children under 12 will be admitted free with a paid adult. Seating is limited. Spectators may take chairs. South Central Roller Girls are also selling tickets during the game for a chance to win a bundle of gift certificates from local businesses. Proceeds will be donated to Wyatt.
