MAY 1, 2012

• Ada Kiwanis Club meets each Monday at 12 noon in the Aldridge Ballroom, 12th and Broadway, for buffet lunch and a short program. Kiwanis is a service club whose motto is “Young Children, Priority One.” Kiwanians serve the  community in ways that primarily benefit children, including the operation of the Kiwanis Ball Park and assisting with the Wintersmith Kiddie Park. • Al Anon meets at 8 p.m. each Tuesday at St. Lukes Episcopal Church. 

 

WEDNESDAY

MAY 2, 2012

• Rabies clinics take place from 9-11:30 a.m. and 1:30-5 p.m. at Ada Vet Clinic, 8 a.m. until noon and 1:30-5 p.m. at Animal Medical Center and 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Arlington Animal Clinic. Cost is $8 per animal.

• The Divorce/Bereavement Support Group meets each Wednesday at 7 p.m. at The Compassion Outreach Center, 1124 Cradduck Rd., Ada. The group offers support for those who have lost a loved one through divorce or death. For more information, phone Tom at 580-332-6506.

• A dance is conducted each Wednesday at Irving Community Center, 704 N. Oak, from 7:30-10 p.m. Cost is $6 per person and is open to all ages. 

 

THURSDAY

MAY 3, 2012

• Rabies clinics take place from 9-11:30 a.m. and 1:30-5 p.m. at Ada Vet Clinic, 8 a.m. until noon and 1:30-5:30 p.m. at Animal Medical Center, 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.at Arlington Animal Clinic and 8:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m at Felines and friends (cats only). Cost is $8 per animal.

• PAST (Preserving Area Stories in Time) organization meets at 5:30 p.m. at First Christian Church at 13th and Broadway. Meetings are open to anyone interested in history.

• NAMI (National Alliance for Mental Illness) meets the first Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. in the conference room next to the dining room at Valley View Regional Hospital.  For more information, phone Ruth Smith at 580-332-2118. 

 

FRIDAY

MAY 4, 2012

• “Swirls and Pearls for the Girls” takes place from 6-8 p.m. at Ada Elks Lodge. The event, hosted by Girl Scouts of Eastern Oklahoma as part of their Centennial Celebration, will feature wine tasting, hors d’oeuvres, sale of pearls and Girl Scout cookies, displays of vintage Girl Scout uniforms and the council’s current camping facilities, a video collage of former Girl Scouts reminiscing about their experiences, and an opportunity to join the Girl Scout alumnae group.   

• ACT II’s production of the musical Annie is 7 p.m. in  Dorothy I. Summers Theatre on the  East Central University campus. Tickets may be purchased at the ticket booth 30 minutes before curtain.  Prices are $8 for adults, $6 for students and senior citizens, $4 for children age 5 and under. • Al Anon meets at 8 p.m. each Friday at St. Lukes Episcopal Church. 

 

SATURDAY

MAY 5, 2012

• City of Ada spring clean-up begins at 9 a.m. Volunteers are needed to pick up trash. All ages, groups and organizations are welcome to participate. Trash bags will be provided. • The Peach Town Opry, a music show and open mic night, is hosted at 7 p.m. the first Saturday of each month at Stratford American Legion Building located just north of the 4-way stop on US Highway 177 in Stratford. The show is free, open to the public and features contemporary country and gospel music. For more information, contact Carole at 320-4319.

• Rabies clinics will be held at Oil Center Fire Department from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.; Vanoss School from 11:15 a.m. to 12 p.m.; and at Roff Fire Department from 12:15 p.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $8 per animal.

• Balancing food and play fun, games and folly takes place from 2-3 p.m. at Harris Park in Hammond Heights. In case of rain, events will be moved to The Church of God in Christ at 3015 N. Townsend Hammond Heights. This is a time of play for children and their families.

MAY 7, 2012

• TOPS, Take Off Pounds Sensibly, a support weight loss group, meets at 8:30 a.m. each Monday at Irving Community Center, second floor. For more information, phone 580-399-6731. 

•Veterans of Foreign Wars, Desert Storm Post 11194, holds its monthly meeting the first Monday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Music Room  located on the second floor of Ada Public Library. Anyone having an interest in the VFW, any veteran, and especially those who have earned a campaign medal through participation in combat are encouraged to attend. The Post also operates a Veterans Service Office at 701 N. Broadway in Ada.
